Pyrolysis Fumes
Pyrolytic self-cleaning ovens have a special high temperature cleaning cycle to burn off accumulations of grease and other cooking residues. During this cycle the oven temperature is increased to about 470°C (878°F) for a period of several hours, and the fumes emitted can be quite offensive. For this reason, many high-end pyrolytic ovens have a catalytic converter built in to make the air quality in the kitchen more acceptable.
